The internet of things was a fringe event that our MP spoke at, discussing the so-called internet of things.
Smart fridges, smart door-bells, smart heating systems were all discussed and the main hurdle to using these technologies are the two issues that it is still too expensive relative to a normal device and that the utility simply isn't there to overcome the price hurdle.
We did hear a wonderful story from the audience that had a grandmother with dementia and she had sensors around her grandmothers home that would alert her if her grandma hadn't got out of bed or had a cup of tea.
There is clearly great benefit to these devices, but they're not quite cheap enough for the mass market yet.
